Tysons Traffic Advisory (Dulles Metro) THIS WEEK OF NOV. 15-21

DULLES CORRIDOR METRORAIL PROJECT TRAFFIC ADVISORY: WEEK OF NOV. 15

OVERVIEW OF NEXT WEEK:

I-495 South (Outer Loop) Off-Ramp to Southbound Route 123

Monday through Wednesday, Nov. 16-18, the shoulder of the exit ramp from the Capital Beltway Outer Loop to southbound Route 123 will be closed. Traffic will still be able to use the ramp, but drivers should expect a narrowing of the lanes and be aware of crews placing concrete barriers. This work will take place between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. each day. Short-Term Traffic Shift Beginning Nov. 20 Beginning Friday night, Nov. 20, a new traffic pattern will begin on northbound Route 123 from just south of Colshire Drive to the Dulles Connector Road (Route 267) overpass. Northbound lanes will shift approximately eight feet to the east (right) to pass a work area. This traffic pattern will be in place for approximately four to six weeks as crews complete a major waterline installation in the area. Gas Main Installation on Chain Bridge Road at Tysons Boulevard Between Monday, Nov. 16 and the Thanksgiving holiday, the two right-turn lanes to Tysons Boulevard and the right through lane of southbound Chain Bridge Road (Route 123) will be closed on overnights only. Drivers should follow Chain Bridge Road south, turn right on International Drive, then veer right on to Galleria Drive to access Tysons Boulevard. Night Work on Leesburg Pike (Route 7) and Westpark Drive

All next week, the right lane of eastbound Leesburg Pike (Route 7) will be closed in two sections so utility crews can pull and splice fiber cables:

  • From the Dulles Toll Road on-ramp to Westwood Center Drive, and
  • Between Spring Hill Road and Marshalls Drive (Tysons Square Shopping Center)

The same type of work, at the same time, will be performed on southbound Westpark Drive, between Greensboro Drive and Leesburg Pike (Route 7).

This work will last from 9:30 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Monday through Thursday, and 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. on Friday night. Police will be on site for motorist safety.

Ramp Work at Dulles Toll Road (Route 267) and Leesburg Pike (Route 7) Interchanges

The following ramps will experience shoulder closures overnights Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 16-17. Traffic will still be allowed to use the ramps:

- Eastbound Dulles Toll Road (Route 267) exit ramp to eastbound Leesburg Pike (Route 7)

- Westbound Leesburg Pike (Route 7) entrance ramp to eastbound Dulles Toll Road (Route 267)

The left lane of the Dulles Connector Road will be closed again next week between Magarity Road and Route 123 (after the split) so crews can deliver material to the work area. Reminder: Permanent Service Road Closure on Route 7

The service road of eastbound Route 7 between Pike 7 Plaza and the Koons GM car dealership began closing permanently last week. Crews are closing portions of the service road one at a time until this entire stretch is eliminated.Business access from Route 7 will remain open, but motorists should expect some alternate entrance routes as this service road is eliminated. Koons customers should enter the property via southbound Route 123.

Old Chain Bridge Road

Next week, the southbound lane of Old Chain Bridge Road between Hallcrest Street and Seneca Avenue will close again so crews can perform pier construction near the area. Traffic will be reduced to one lane, and a flagger and police will be on site at all times for motorist safety.

Reminder: Truck Access Permitted on I-66

The project has been granted approval by the Virginia Department of Transportation to allow trucks to use I-66, including the stretch between the I-495 Capital Beltway and Route 29 (Lee Highway). This will enable trucks to transport materials to and from the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project’s multiple construction sites in the area.

Route 7/Route 123 Interchange Changes
